As time passes, brake components in your CDJR vehicle will wear out or get damaged and you’ll need to visit your CDJR dealer for a repair. These are a few signs that you may need a brake repair very soon.

Screeching Noises

High-pitched screeching when you hit the brakes is a sign that something is wrong. Although it sounds terrible, it’s not as bad as you’d imagine from the noise. This is one of the most common brake issues, and it’s quick and easy to fix. The awful sound is caused by worn-out brake pads.
Brake pads fit into the brake calipers and have a friction-producing material covering. When you brake, they’re forced against both sides of each wheel rotor. The pads generate friction against the rotors, and their friction slows and stops your wheels. The material on a pad is 1/2″ thick, and when it wears down to 1/4″ thickness, the worn pad will make screeching noises. We’ll remove and replace the worn pads and the noises will stop.

Brake Fluid Leak

Brake fluid is a vital part of your braking system, as it supplies the hydraulic power that enables the brakes to work effectively. It’s stored in the brake fluid reservoir and is pressurized when you press down on the brake pedal. The pressurized fluid is forced through the brake hoses and pushes the pins out of the calipers. This causes the calipers to close on the rotors, as we saw above.
Normal wear and tear will eventually cause problems like rusted brake lines or worn rubber brake hoses. In either case, brake fluid will leak out. You might not see a leak, but you’ll notice that your brake pedal produces less resistance than it should. This is a sign of low pressure in the system. Our technicians will examine your braking system and repair any leaks we find. Once this is done, we’ll refill your brake fluid.

Glazed Brake Pads

As we’ve seen, healthy brake pads are essential for your braking system to work effectively. Glazed brake pads aren’t necessarily worn out, but they have been severely damaged and can’t generate friction anymore. Without this friction-producing ability, the glazed pad won’t stop its rotor from turning. Your vehicle will turn toward one side in the direction of a working set of brake pads.
The glazing effect is caused by pads that are kept in almost constant contact with their rotor. The pad will skim across the rotor surface and gradually develop a smooth, glass-like appearance. We can fix this problem by replacing the pads.
